Fall 2015 Conference

October 22nd, 2015

"Energy in Illinois and the Clean Power Plan"

The conference will focus on three issues concerning
(1) hydraulic fracturing in Illinois,
(2) the targets and requirements of the Clean Power Plan for Illinois, and
(3) policy perspectives toward the Clean Power Plan.

Session 1 will examine the process of fracturing as well as the regulation and requirements for companies operating in Illinois. Additionally, speakers will discuss the economics of fracking when oil and natural gas prices are low.

Session 2 will assess Illinois’ targets and requirements, examine the Illinois EPA’s process for developing a plan to meet these targets, examining possible regional approaches, and understanding the legality of and opposition to the Clean Power Plan.

Session 3 will discuss different policy mechanisms that can be utilized to meet the requirements set forth by the EPA. Among these policies include a focus on renewables, reliance on nuclear energy, and a transition toward cleaner coal.
