Spring 2014 Conference
April 17, 2014
The Institute for Regulatory Policy Studies at Illinois State University is sponsoring a conference entitled "The Math of Energy: Adding Shale Gas, Subtracting Load, and Balancing the Environment", on Thursday, April 17, 2014 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Springfield, IL. The conference will focus on three issues concerning
(1) the impact of shale gas on electric and gas industries,
(2) predictions for load growth, and
(3) the EPA and it's attempt to regulate carbon using 111(d).
Session 1 will discuss the impacts and changes in Midwest natural gas markets, including pipeline capacity and constraints. It will examine the impact of natural gas generators in the Midwest, and review opportunities and challenges faced by developing the New Albany shale.
Session 2 will examine the predictions for load growth, analyze changes, and address the impact of energy efficiency and distributed generation on load.
Session 3 will be a talk by Bradley Klein of the Environmental Law and Policy Center on 111(d) and other environmental statutes.
Session 4 will provide an overview of 111(d) and the implication of using it to regulate carbon, comparing federal and state viewpoints. In addition, the session will present models of carbon and discuss the impact on reliability concerns.
