Fall 2013 Conference

October 30, 2013

The Institute for Regulatory Policy Studies at Illinois State University is sponsoring a conference entitled " The Costs and Benefits of Keeping Utilities Modern". The conference will focus on three issues concerning
(1) cyber-security and the challenges posed by keeping public data private;
(2) demand response measure and their impact on electric wholesale markets; and
(3) current infrastructure needs in Illinois and potential financial models for funding public/private projects.

Session 1 will examine the challenges posed by public data and the need for privacy, discuss the challenges of coordinating information and responsibilities, consider the proper forums for discussing cyber-security, information and data, and finally, examine the impact of increased intelligence on electricity, natural gas, and water infrastructure networks.

Session 2 will compare demand response products under different regulated markets, the impact on peak prices and the margins of generators, as well as examining energy efficiency's impact of wholesale markets.

Session 3 will be a short seminar about Illinois' Clean Air Programs of the EPA.

Session 4 will assess the current needs and challenges faced by Illinois utilities, potential financial models for funding public/private projects, and the impact on economic development.
